We shot eleven ads in two days with Jón Gnarr, starring as Lýður Oddsson, a lotto millionaire. Out of five ads nominated for the Icelandic Ad Awards, four came from this campaign and one won the award. If you win the lottery in Iceland it’s unlikely that you become filthy rich, but … it might bring some minor changes in your lifestyle. Another actor was supposed to play the role but backed out a few days before shooting. Jón jumped in and did an absolutely marvellous job. The idea came from Þorsteinn Guðmundsson, who wrote most of the scripts though I wrote two or three and Jón came up with few during our improv rehearsals. The success of the campaign lead to a sequel starring María Reyndal as Björg, Lýður’s wife. Maria (actress, writer, director) is a brilliant artist and has since become a dear friend. This was the first time we met but we have collaborated quite a bit since.
